Our program brings together top employers and our brightest undergraduate students. We invite you to participate in this program and to benefit from having our distinguished alumni mentor you and help you to get matched up with an exciting summer internship.
We are looking for…
Well-rounded and ambitious economics majors who are eager to work hard to put themselves forward as the best that UCLA Economics has to offer top employers in finance, consulting, accounting, commercial real estate, and other areas.
The benefits for you…
The distinguished alumni volunteers on our Board of Visitors are committed to interview, coach, and mentor those undergraduates selected to interview for the Sharpe Fellows Program. These alumni will help you understand how to present yourself effectively to top employers.
The Department of Economics and our Board of Visitors will then help those students selected as Sharpe Fellows to get matched in summer internships with top firms in finance, consulting, commercial real estate, and other areas that we have lined up to participate in this program.
The Sharpe Fellows Program will be a great way for you to distinguish yourself as one of UCLA’s best. Last year we named nine Sharpe Fellows:
• Allyson Benas interned with PWC Transaction Services in San Francisco.
• Eric Fong interned with PWC’s Advisory Division under the Financial Management and Analysis Group in San Jose.
• Sunjae Kwon interned with the investment bank Moelis & Company in Los Angeles.
• Alice Lin interned with the Advisory/Risk unit at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
• Julia Liu interned with Goldman Sachs in Los Angeles.
• Jennifer Lo interned with at Ernst and Young BRS in Los Angeles.
• Stephen Murphy interned at Bank of America.
• Kelly Shu interned at the Capital Group in Los Angeles.

To Apply to the Sharpe Fellows Program…
Students should apply to the Sharpe Fellows Program through BruinView at http://www.career.ucla.edu. This program is open to majors in Economics, Business Economics, Economics/International Area Studies, and Mathematics/Economics only. The application deadline is Friday, October 24, 2008.
To apply you must submit via BruinView the following materials:
1. Your contact information and UCLA ID number
2. A Degree Progress Report
3. A resume
4. A Three-Part Application Essay, combined in one THREE-PAGE PDF file. Our alumni volunteers will use this essay to get to know you and help guide you in attaining your professional goals. This application essay must include a ONE-PAGE personal essay that describes your outside interests and any life experiences that set you apart as one of UCLA’s best, a ONE-PAGE essay that describes for our alumni volunteers your professional goals, and a ONE PAGE sample cover letter introducing yourself as a candidate to a firm that you would like to work for. You choose the firm and write the letter as if it were for real. If you are selected to interview for the Sharpe Fellows Program, our alumni volunteers will use your cover letter to give you feedback on how to present yourself to a top employer.
In addition, we require applicants to post a profile and a video interview with Revolution Careers. To complete this part of the application:
